yesterday. What I saw made me smile and broke my heart a little. In the best and most bittersweet way.

These kids...11, 12, maybe 13 years old. With problem statements, market research, supply chains, charities of choice, and marketing slogans that would make a seasoned brand strategist pause.

“Stop Hunger. Start Wonder.”

“Where there is trash, there’s treasure.”

“Think Green to Keep the Earth Clean.”

One team dreamed up DIY food kits to fight world hunger. Another designed a tablet to educate underprivileged adults in sub-Saharan Africa. One group turned ocean microplastics into art. Another donated 80% of imagined profits to food banks.

They didn’t ask “is this realistic?”
They asked “what problem do I care about?”

That one question is everything. Because at some point, quietly, most of us stopped asking it.

If your mind is blind to possibility, your eyes will be blind to opportunity.

We’ve been so conditioned by survival, by mortgages, performance reviews, and the quiet terror of being wrong, that we’ve mistaken our limitations for reality.

We call it experience. It’s just fear, aged, renamed, and passed down.

Three things I haven’t been able to shake

→ Unconditioned minds think in solutions, not obstacles. Nobody told these kids the problem was too big. So they didn’t know to be afraid of it. They picked what sparked something in them and moved toward it. That’s not naivety. That’s the original state of human genius, before we trained it out of ourselves.

→ Survival mode is the enemy of purpose. When every thought is consumed by enough, there’s no room left for what if. The world is full of unresolved problem statements. Pick the one that won’t leave you alone. That restlessness isn’t anxiety. That’s a calling.

→ AI isn’t taking your future. It might be returning it. These kids aren’t afraid of AI. They’re using it. What if the real gift of this moment isn’t efficiency? It’s time. Time to think. Time to wonder. Time to ask the questions we’ve been too busy surviving to ask.

Here’s what broke me open in that room.

It wasn’t their ideas.

It was the size of their permission.

Nobody had taken it from them yet.

Without meaning to, through our worry, our pragmatism, our very loving advice, that’s exactly what we do.

We hand them our ceiling and call it wisdom. We dress our fear up as guidance. We let our unlived life become their limitation.

So I left that classroom with one intention.

Get out of their way. In doing so, maybe find your way back to your own wonder.

Don’t shrink their questions down to the size of your answers. Don’t let what the world did to your wonder become what you do to theirs.

To every teacher, parent, and mentor creating space for this kind of thinking, you are doing the most important work on earth.

To these kids, you already know something most adults have forgotten.

Don’t let us talk you out of it.

Inward to Upward is a reader-supported publication. layoffs, what’s going to happen to our children, read this.

Your job is not your identity. It never was.

Nobody handed us a manual. But the message was clear. Study hard, get a good job, build a career. So we did. We built our confidence, worth, and sense of belonging there.

Now the ground is moving.

The fear I’m seeing everywhere isn’t just about losing a job. Jobs and stability matter, but nobody is naming what people are actually grieving. It’s the identity they wrapped around it. Output became self-worth. Productivity became purpose. When your entire identity lives inside your title, you can’t see beyond it. Detach the two and the possibilities change entirely.

I watch leaders lose their footing when their title shifts. High performers fall apart after a layoff. People who built incredible careers suddenly do not know who they are without a full calendar and a badge around their neck.

The real crisis isn’t AI taking jobs.

It’s the silence that follows when the DOING stops and the BEING has to stand on its own.

That’s what we were never prepared for.

What you do is one expression of who you are. They built something entirely new because they had no choice but to remember who they were without the work.

Every great displacement in history was a promotion in disguise.

We are at that exact inflection point again.

This time there is a gift buried in it.

For the first time in human history the tools to build, create and contribute are available to anyone with intention. The barrier isn’t access anymore. It’s permission.

The generation behind us already knows this.

They question everything. They want meaning before they give effort. They create, collaborate, and care about impact in ways that make no sense to a productivity metric. They won’t stay busy for the sake of it. They won’t trade their wellbeing for a title.

While the world worries about them, I can’t wait to see what they build.

Just get out of their way.

Welcome to the Passion Era.

Where the machine handles the HOW and the human brings the WHY. imposter syndrome?”

My answer is always the same: You don’t. You decode it.

When I say that, I watch the same thing happen every time. It is relief mixed with confusion, and sometimes a bit of frustration. We have been conditioned to believe that the knot in our stomach (the one that shows up right before the high-stakes meeting or the career-defining moment) means something is wrong with us.

But what if I told you that feeling isn’t the problem? What if it’s actually intelligence?

Subscribe now

The Misinterpretation

I have observed a specific pattern after sitting across from leaders who are objectively extraordinary and subjectively convinced they are frauds: Imposter syndrome isn’t a syndrome. It is data.

Your brain is performing high-level pattern recognition. It is scanning for risk, calculating stakes, and measuring the distance between where you are and where you are going. When that gap feels vast, or when you are standing at a threshold you have never crossed before, your nervous system sends you a signal:

“You don’t know everything yet. Proceed with caution.”

That is not a defect. It is your brain working exactly as it was designed to work. The problem is that we have been taught to misread the signal. We interpret it as proof that we don’t belong, when it is actually proof that we are paying attention.

The Pattern You’re Missing

Think back to every major transition in your career or life:

Your first leadership role, where you suddenly had to make decisions that affected people’s lives.

That one high-stakes presentation where the outcome mattered more than you wanted to admit.

The project that genuinely terrified you because failure wasn’t just personal; it was public.

You felt it then, too. That familiar knot. That voice that asked, “Who are you to be here?” Yet, you moved forward anyway.

Most of us focus on the feeling and forget the outcome. We remember the doubt but not the fact that we crossed the threshold. We internalize the fear but externalize the success. You have stood at every one of these thresholds before, and you have crossed every single one of them.

That isn’t luck. That is your track record.

The Evidence Exercise

I ask every person who tells me they struggle with imposter syndrome to do one thing:

Draw a timeline of your career or life and mark every major pivot.

Include the moments, not just the promotions. Note the conversations that changed everything, the decisions that scared you, and the thresholds you weren’t sure you were ready to cross.

Next to each one, write down exactly how you felt right before it happened.

Be specific. You are going to see a pattern: Doubt. Fear. A total lack of certainty.

It is the exact same feeling you are having right now about whatever threshold you are standing at today.

The revelation is simple: That feeling never predicted failure. It was predicting your expansion.

Every time you felt unqualified, you were about to become more qualified. The feeling wasn’t a warning sign. It was a growth signal.

What Confidence Actually Is

We have been sold a lie about what confidence looks like. We have been told that leaders walk into rooms certain of their place in them. That is rarely the reality.

Confidence is not the absence of doubt. It is the willingness to move forward with it.

Competence is not certainty. It is the ability to navigate uncertainty while making sound decisions.

Leadership is not knowing everything. It is being honest about what you don’t know while holding the weight of what is at stake.

When that knot shows up, your brain isn’t saying, “You’re not good enough.” It is saying, “The stakes are real. You’re self-aware enough to know what you don’t know yet. Pay attention.”

That is intelligence.

The Reframe

Stop treating the fear like an enemy. Start treating it like a map.

That knot in your stomach is showing you exactly where the “stretch” is: the part of your identity that is expanding to fit a bigger room. The feeling does not have to disappear for you to move forward. You don’t have to wait until you feel ready.

Ready isn’t a feeling. It is a decision.

Trust your own data. You have felt unqualified before and become qualified anyway. You have questioned whether you belonged and then made the room better because you were in it.

The Question That Reveals Everything

I’ll leave you with the same question I ask in my sessions:

What is one moment from your past where that feeling, the doubt, the fear, the sense that you weren’t ready, actually led to your biggest growth?

That moment is your evidence. It is the data that proves the feeling isn’t disqualifying you. It is preparing you.

You don’t get rid of imposter syndrome. You decode it. You learn to read it for what it actually is: not weakness, but a signal that you are standing at the edge of your next evolution.

Step forward anyway.

Strategy. The threshold where we finally transition from conditioning to consciousness.

Somewhere between your 30s and 40s, the life you’ve built starts to feel like it doesn’t quite fit anymore.

We’ve been taught to fear this moment.

We call it a “crisis.”

We diagnose it, fear it, and try to medicate it away.

But what if we’ve misnamed it entirely?

What we’ve been told is a breakdown…is actually a breakthrough.

It’s not a malfunction; it’s a universal design.

It is the point at which the soul, having checked off the list of societal obligations, finally demands to be heard.

The First Half: Building Someone Else’s Blueprint

For most of your early life, you followed a script you didn’t write.

It came from your parents, your culture, and the unspoken rules of the world. The script was simple:

Study. Career. Marriage. House. Kids. Climb.

You did it. Not because you were conforming, but because those were the only goals you could see.

You were too busy becoming someone to ask who you were becoming.

This wasn’t wasted time. It was the experimentation phase.

This phase is crucial; it allows you to fully experience the world through the lens of your conditioning, creating the very friction needed for the next stage.

You can’t know what doesn’t fit until you’ve tried it on.

The Quiet Unraveling

Then, the “Checklist” ends.

In the sudden stillness, the questions arrive:

Who am I beyond these roles?

What is my purpose if it’s not just to achieve?

Is this it? Am I in the wrong life entirely?

These questions don’t mean something is wrong with you. They mean something is finally right.

You’ve created enough stability and enough space that the deeper part of you, the soul that has been patient, can finally speak up.

This isn’t pathology; it’s an evolutionary imperative.

Archaeology vs. Architecture

Modern psychology often keeps us stuck in “archaeology,” digging into the past to find out why we are the way we are.

Your childhood wounds. Your parents’ failures. The patterns you inherited.

While understanding your upbringing is valuable, there is a trap here.

Your parents were shaped by their parents, who were shaped by theirs. “Hurt people hurt others,” and they were all doing their best with the tools they had.

If they didn’t know better, how could they teach you better?

At some point, you have to stop asking “Why am I this way?” and start asking:

“Who do I want to become?”

This is the shift from being a victim of your conditioning to being the architect of your consciousness.

The past is not your master.

You are.

It’s an Awakening, Not a Breakdown

By design, this moment is a spiritual awakening, the internal shift where the soul finally takes the lead, moving you from a life of conditioning into a life of consciousness.

To me, “spiritual” simply means reconnecting with what’s essential and stripping away what’s borrowed.

You’re not having a crisis. You’re outgrowing a costume.

You are being dismantled, consciously or unconsciously, so that something more authentic can emerge.

This is the sacred movement from the life you were assigned to the life you were designed for.

What Happens If You Don't Wake Up?

Some people ignore the whisper.

They double down on the checklist and medicate the restlessness with the next thing: a promotion, a new job, a bigger house, scrolling, shopping, busyness, or “being fine.”

It works for a while, but the question doesn’t go away. It just gets quieter, which is somehow worse.

You can spend the second half of your life haunted by the person you didn’t become.

What Happens When You Do the Work?

The alternative is what I call the "Messy Middle."

It’s honest, it’s confusing, and it’s non-linear.

But it’s where you stop performing and start living.

When you lean into this transition:

You find your inner compass. The frantic search for external validation ceases. You learn to listen to the soul’s whispers, which become your truest guide.

You reclaim your power. Blame transforms into accountability. You recognize that you are the architect of your reality, capable of conscious choice.

You live in alignment. Your actions, relationships, and purpose begin to reflect your authentic self. The “right life” replaces the “expected life.”

Sometimes the job, the relationship, and the life stay, but you return to them as someone new…someone who chose them consciously, not someone who inherited them unconsciously.

What Are You Going To Do With What You’re Feeling?

If you’re feeling this way, you’re not broken. You’re not alone. You’re not having a crisis.

The discomfort you feel is the most important invitation you’ll ever receive.

The “midlife crisis” is a lie.

What you’re experiencing is the universe’s way of inviting you out of your conditioning and into your consciousness.

If you’re in this season and want a grounded space to navigate it, you don’t have to do it alone.

The only question is: are you ready to wake up?

Strategy. actually draws us to certain people.

I’m not talking about romantic chemistry or the superficial spark of a good conversation.

I’m talking about that soul-level pull, the kind that makes you think, I want to be in their orbit. I want to know how they see the world. I want to be their friend.

I realized that the common thread isn’t charisma, success, or even kindness.

It is self-respect.

You can feel it almost immediately. There is a stillness in their posture and a clarity in their gaze. They don’t perform or explain themselves. They are not trying to be impressive.

They simply are.

They move through the world with a kind of calm that makes you feel safe around them.

They aren’t looking for you to fix them or fill them up. They are already full.

What They Do Differently

Most of us were taught that being “good” meant being endlessly available. Over-explaining. Making ourselves easy to access, even when it costs us.

But a self-respecting soul moves differently. Not because they’re better, but because they’re aligned.

They don’t just have a “vibe”; they have a code.

They keep their word. When they say something, they mean it. Their inner world matches their actions. There’s no gap between who they are and how they show up.

They have boundaries. They don’t build walls to keep people out; they build gates to protect what is sacred inside.

They understand that you cannot have a high standard for your life and a high tolerance for chaos at the same time.

They value their time. They treat their energy like a finite resource. If something doesn’t align, they simply withdraw their availability. No drama, no big announcement, just a quiet exit.

They are honest. They realize that “people-pleasing” is just a polite way of lying. They would rather be authentic than liked.

Why It Is So Magnetic

When you’re around someone who honors their own time, effort, and heart, something subtle happens.

Their self-respect becomes a mirror.

Without saying a word, they invite you to rise. To tighten your own standards. To stop negotiating with yourself.

They remind you that the most graceful thing you can do is stop seeking validation externally and start generating it internally.

We are drawn to them because they have stopped being “seekers” and have become a “destination.”

They have finally come home to themselves.

How to Cultivate This

How do you become this person? It isn’t a “vibe” you put on; it’s a series of choices you make:

Stop the leak.
Notice where you over-explain. Practice saying “That doesn’t work for me” and letting it land. When you add a paragraph to your no, you’re asking permission. Stop asking.

Audit your circles.
Energy transfers. Who are you surrounded by—people who respect themselves, or people who drain themselves? You can’t build something solid on unstable ground.

Audit your tolerance.
Look at what you’re currently putting up with. Then ask: If I loved myself just 10% more, would I still allow this? If the answer is no, withdraw.

Build internal credibility.
Keep the small promises you make to yourself. When gossip starts, don’t nod along. When something feels off, don’t override it. Each moment of integrity strengthens your self-trust.

Allow the vacuum.
When you stop settling, there is often a pause before the aligned arrives. Let it be quiet. Don’t rush to fill the space. That pause is not emptiness; it’s recalibration.

The Result

When you stop outsourcing your worth, something reorganizes.

I’ve noticed that when I stop tolerating what doesn’t fit, I don’t have to chase what does. The people who enter my life now don’t need convincing. They meet me where I already am.

I don’t think that’s magic.

I think that’s self-respect doing what it does best.

It sorts.
<div Over time, a pattern became undeniable:

When my inner capacity expanded, my external leadership expanded.

When something inside me lagged, when I was fearful, scattered, or trying to prove myself, everything outside felt heavier than it needed to be.

That relationship has been consistent enough that I don't just believe it anymore. I trust it.

How This Showed Up in My Life

Over the last five years, my career grew more than 10x.

Scope: Massive expansion.

Promotions: Consistent upward trajectory.

Impact: Board roles, advisory, speaking, investing, and industry influence.

Wealth: Financial abundance I hadn’t planned for.

But the outcomes matter less to me than how they happened.

I didn’t give up my personal life to get there. as “not choosing.” Life is shaped as much by inaction as by action.

We lie to ourselves when we’re scared. We say things like:

“I haven’t decided yet.”

“I’m waiting for the right time.”

“I’m keeping my options open.”

These don’t sound like decisions.

But there is no pause button on life. Time keeps moving even if you stand still.

Whatever you don’t choose, chooses for you.

The Three Forms of Inaction

1. Silence is a decision. When you don’t speak up, you are saying: “This is acceptable to me.”

2. Delay is a direction. Waiting doesn’t hold you steady. It locks you in place.

3. Comfort is a vote. It is choosing a familiar unhappiness over an unfamiliar truth.

We do this because avoidance feels like safety.

You avoid the hard thing. Your body relaxes. The tension fades. And your nervous system learns a lesson: “This is how we stay safe.”

That relief becomes a habit.

So the next time truth rises, a hard conversation, a boundary, a new beginning, your body remembers the relief. It guides you back toward quiet, delay, and safety.

Not because it’s right. But because it’s known.

Your life is the sum of your choices. But that sum includes every moment of hesitation. You are defined as much by the actions you avoid as by the actions you take.

The conversation you didn’t have decides the relationship.

The work you didn’t start decides the career.

The boundary you didn’t set decides your peace.

What you don’t face today decides what controls you tomorrow.

Stillness always chooses something. data-component-name="ButtonCreateButton">Subscribe now

It took me a long time to accept that I have healing abilities.

I’m not talking about the mystical kind people romanticize. I’m talking about the kind rooted in lived experience, cold truth, and inner alignment.

I didn’t start writing on Substack to impress anyone.

I started because I wanted to share the gifts I discovered through my own transformation, and to help you find your way back to your own power.

Here’s the part I don’t talk about often: I’m a deeply logical person.

In the beginning, none of this made sense to me. "Soul," "meaning," "destiny," these felt like abstract concepts for people who didn't want to deal with reality.

I wrestled with the hard questions:

How can I be the creator of my reality if other people’s actions are hurtful and not in my control?

How do I trust what I can’t fully explain?

Then, something shifted. The evidence didn’t come from theories or books. It came from living it, integrating it, and experiencing it.

That’s when it clicked.

When I work with people now, I don’t talk about religion. I talk about a simple, grounded truth:

You are the creator. What you do next is your choice: craft a life that expresses who you are, or stay in one that confines you.

To actually create your future, four truths must land:

1. The Past Doesn’t Define You

Anything that happened to you happened through people operating from their own wounds, limitations, and conditioning.

Ask yourself: Have you ever seen a joyful, healed person hurt someone? Exactly.

Hurt people hurt people. We must stop carrying their unconsciousness into your future.

2. You Exist — Therefore, You Matter

This is non-negotiable. You can feel your body. You can feel your presence. You exist.

There’s nothing in nature that exists without purpose, not a leaf, not a stone, not a single cell. Your worth is not earned. It is inherent.

If you exist, you matter. This is the foundation of all inner work.

3. If You Come From Creation, You Are a Creator

Call it God, consciousness, source, or the universe, the label is irrelevant. If there is a design, there is a designer.

If you were created, you carry the same creative intelligence within you.

This isn’t philosophy; it’s a pattern. Your results change the moment you do.

4. Your Outer Reality Can Only Rise to Meet Your Inner One

If you want a new future, your inner world must match it.

Let go of the past.

Remember that you matter.

Decide what you desire.

Take aligned action now.

Because the truth is simple:

You created your current reality. Which means you have everything you need to create the next one.

This is the real work. This is the inner alchemy.

Your life changes the moment you stop looking for answers outside of you and start understanding what’s happening within you.

Your inner world isn’t a concept. It’s the place where every version of your life is born.

If this spoke to you, subscribe to Inner Alchemy. This is the work I’m committed to: helping people remember who they are, so they can rise into who they’re meant to be.

Strategy. We have all heard (or said) the usual scripts:

“My boss doesn’t see my potential.”

“I’m not being recognized.”

“I’m not getting the love or respect I deserve.”

“I keep getting overlooked.”

It feels better to blame the external. It absolves us of responsibility.

But here’s the truth most people avoid:

Your outer world is a mirror. It reflects your inner reality with perfect accuracy.

The Self-Audit

If you are not sure how you created the reality you’re living in, you need to stop looking at them and start looking at you. Ask yourself the real questions:

How do I see myself when no one is watching?

How do I treat myself?

How do I value my time?

Do I deeply feel worthy of more?

Whatever comes up, don’t run from it.

The universe doesn’t discriminate; it responds. It responds to your beliefs, your self-worth, your inner dialogue, and the energy you hold about yourself.

It is a simple input/output equation:

If you don’t believe you’re enough, life reflects that lack back to you.

If you don’t respect your time, the world won’t respect it either.

If you don’t feel worthy of more, you physically cannot receive more.

The power isn’t in blaming the outside. The power is in realizing the mechanics of your life:

You created this reality.

That might sting, but it is actually the best news you could hear. Because if you created this reality, you have everything you need to create a new one.

That is where the inner alchemy begins.

               Strategy.
